Woman Crush Wednesday: The Feminist Feline

me as cat

Hey there!

My name is Corinne Falotico and I blog at The Feminist Feline. With The Feminist Feline I blog about the news, pop culture, and politics from a feminist perspective. To set my blog apart from the many other feminist blogs out there, all of my posts contain an adorable cat video, picture or meme that is semi-relevant to the post to lighten up the discussion.

Why feminism? Though feminism has often been seen as a radical, man-hating, bra-burning movement, in reality, it is far from that. Thanks to BeyoncĂ©, we all now know that feminism just asks for "the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes."

In fact, feminism is actually "cool" now. Taylor Swift recently "came out" as a feminist, and so has Emma Watson and Leighton Meester, among others. These power women have shown that not being a feminist is not only uncool, but also old-fashioned and sexist.

Remember when Shailene Woodley said she wasn't a feminist? Lots of her fans turned away, appalled how the star of the empowering movie "Divergent" couldn't support a movement of gender equality. It was clear that Woodley didn't even know what feminism meant, and she refused to retract her comments, saying that she still believed the movement was "discriminating." Have you seen her in the media lately? No. Is it because she's not a feminist? Maybe.

It's topics like these that I discuss on The Feminist Feline. My goal with the blog is to make feminism accessible to the everyday woman. Feminism has often been looked at as a "dirty" word, but I want to help prove to the world that it's a wonderful thing.
